Couple incidents
I work for a small agency in Upstate New York and have a couple incidents that you might find interesting.
In one instance, I responded to a domestic dispute with two people that we dealt with on a regular basis. I spoke to the male half who was upset over his girlfriend’s drinking habits. When I asked him what the problem was, he told me, “I’m sick of her drinking all the time. As a matter of fact, I bought a twelve pack of beer today. I only got six beers and she drank the other nine.”
Despite the look on my face and counting on my fingers in front of him, he failed to catch on to his math snafu.
In another instance, I had received a report of reckless driving and road rage. The victim described the car as a silver Honda and knew the passenger in the car I was also familiar with him. After very little investigative work, I was able to determine who the driver was and called him. I told him to come to the station because I had to speak to him about an incident. He agreed and showed up about an hour later.
While he was at the station I advised him of the complaint and told him that he would be receiving a citation for the reckless driving. He was very cooperative. I asked what his license plate number was and he told me he didn’t know because it wasn’t his car. He did offer to get the plate and he left the station. He returned with the plate number which I plugged into the computer. The plate he provided returned on a stolen vehicle. I confirmed the plate and checked it against the car, which was parked twenty feet from the front door to the police department, and it was indeed the same car.
I returned to the office that he was in and placed him under arrest. When he asked why he was being arrested I told him that the car he was operating was reported stolen to which he replied, “I didn’t think that he’d report it stolen.”
