Police Find Meth In Man’s Prosthetic Leg

Sheriff’s Deputies in Jay, Oklahoma, have arrested a 64-year-old Grove man after they found crystal meth hidden in his prosthetic leg. The man, identified as Larry Clinton Harper, was arrested at his business, which was supposed to be selling stuff completely unrelated to drugs, Harper’s Used Cars and Body Shop.

A search of Harper turned up drugs inside a covering resembling a sock inside his prosthetic leg, said Delaware County Sheriff’s Captain Larry Barnett.

“They just tumbled out, and he just laughed,” Barnett said. “He said he thought he was pulling the wool over our eyes, but we had the last laugh.”

The arrest came after successful drug purchases from Harper’s business, according to Barnett.

Strangulation

PORTLAND, Ore. - A nurse returning from work discovered an intruder armed with a hammer in her home and strangled him with her bare hands, police said.
Susan Kuhnhausen, 51, then ran to a neighbor’s house Wednesday night to report the intruder, identified as Edward Dalton Haffey, 59, whose body was found by police.

An autopsy by the Multnomah County medical examiner determined the cause of death to be strangulation, said Officer Catherine Kent, a spokeswoman for the Portland Police Bureau.

Homicide detectives were investigating, Kent said.

Police say there was no obvious sign of forced entry at the house when Kuhnhausen, an emergency room nurse at Providence Portland Medical Center, got home from work shortly after 6 p.m.

Haffey, a convicted felon with a long police record, was dead when police arrived.

“Everyone that I’ve talked to says ‘Hurray for Susan,’” said neighbor Annie Warnock, who called 911.

Under Oregon law people can use reasonable deadly force when defending themselves against an intruder or burglar in their homes.

“You didn’t need to calm her,” Warnock said. “She’s an emergency room nurse.
She’s used to dealing with crisis.”

Kuhnhausen was treated and released for minor injuries at Providence.

Haffey, about 5 foot 9 inches tall and 180 pounds, had convictions including conspiracy to commit aggravated murder, robbery, drug charges and possession of burglary tools.

Neighbors said Kuhnhausen’s size - 5 foot 7 inches tall and 260 pounds – may have given her an advantage.

Paula Derr, a LifeFlight nurse, said Kuhnhausen has been an advocate for protection of nurses, who sometimes face violence in the workplace.

YouTube Prank Video Leads To Arrests

A video of a prank that ended up on the World Wide Web has led to criminal charges.

Prosecutors in New York City, New York, say that three men pretended to be plainclothes police officers and stopped a 16-year-old boy on a street in Queens back in July of 2006. They barraged him with questions about a nonexistent robbery and made him put his hands up, and the videotaped it all.

In the video, the boy can be seen obeying the phony officers’ requests, apparently oblivious to the fact that he was being videotaped.

The video ended up on YouTube, a popular Internet site where people can submit and view homemade movies. Friends saw the tape, and the boy called the cops.

One person has been arrested on suspicion of impersonating a police officer and unlawful imprisonment. According to the district attorney of Queens, the prank was unsafe and could have led to injury.

Alleged Burglar In Thong Leaves Video

A Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, man clad in only a thong and carrying a knife is suspected of videotaping himself attempting a burglary, and leaving the tape behind, according to police. That evidence ultimately led to his capture, Fort Mitchell Police Chief Steve Hensley said. Thirty-six-year-old Rodney McMillen, of Covington, Kentucky, was charged over the weekend with first-degree burglary.

“This is a very, very bizarre case, to say the least,” Hensley said.

McMillen reportedly broke into a woman’s apartment around 3:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time on September 20, wearing nothing but thong underwear, and carrying a knife, according to Hensley. The woman fought off the attacker, who ran into a grove of trees near the apartment complex, Hensley said.

A search of the apartment turned up a video camera that the burglar left there, and found video of McMillen’s family on the end of the tape, Hensley said. His family must not be too pleased with this!

Investigators were able to confirm the identities of some of them and tracked down our bumbling burglar at his mother’s house.

McMillen was lodged in the Hamilton County Justice Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, on $50,000 bail, waiting to be extradited to Kentucky.

Man Flags Down Cops, Gets Busted For Pot

A man in Rogersville, Tennessee, who flagged down a cop car in the hope of getting a ride to “a house on the hill” was charged with marijuana possession. Nineteen-year-old Daniel Paul Steinbach was standing in the middle of the street flailing his arms at a police car the night of September 23. When officer Chad Christian stopped, Steinbach appeared shaky on his feet and asked for a ride “to a house on the hill.”

“I asked him what house, and he just replied ‘A house on the hill,’” Christian’s report said.

The officer asked the suspect if he was taking any medicines, and according to the report, Steinbach said that he had been smoking weed.

Christian searched our marijuana-smoking moron’s pockets and found about an ounce of maryjane, and $75, the report says.

Steinbach was charged with public intoxication and possession of marijuana with intent to sell, a felony that carries a sentence of one to two years in prison.

He was released on September 24 from the Hawkins County Jail after posting bail and is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on October 4.

Man Arrested Walking With Pot Plant

Apparently, 36-year-old Aaron Janssen made it all too easy for police to catch him.

Janssen was arrested on marijuana charges on September 21 as he was taking a nice, peaceful stroll through downtown Des Moines, Iowa, carrying recently-harvested maryjane plants, according to police there.

Polk County Chief Deputy Mark Burdock said he did a double-take when he looked out the window of his office at the county jail and saw Janssen walking down the sidewalk with the offending foliage.

“He was carrying it like you’d carry a bundle of presents. It was tall enough where he was looking over the top of them, and he’s just walking like nothing’s going on,” Burdock said.

Burdock also said that he went outside and yelled at our pot-carrying pinhead, who walked straight over to Burdock, still carrying the weed.

Janssen said the plants were part of his marijuana farm near the Des Moines River, but he wouldn’t say just where exactly that was, Burdock said.

A search by deputies also turned up two two-pound bags of processed pot strapped to each of Janssen’s legs, and a third one wrapped in a sweater.

“He didn’t seem intoxicated or anything of that nature,” Burdock said. “He was just kind of proud of his grow.”

Pizza Hut patron

One Friday night, I was celebrating my first paycheck at my new job by treating my friends to a meal at Pizza Hut.  A week earlier, I’d complained about a patron at this same Pizza Hut and gotten him thrown out.  While my friends and I were eating, he showed up, challenged me to a fight and walked out to the parking lot.  I called the police.
When the cop arrived, the guy was still out in the lot.  When the cop asked him what was going on, he replied, “That guy inside got me thrown out of here last week.  Tonight, I had some drinks, and then decided to see if he was here.  I want to fight him.”
“You had some drinks, then drove over here?” the officer asked.  He pointed to the car on which the man was leaning.  “Is this your car?” The man replied that it was.
The next question, of course, was “How much did you have to drink?”
The officer gave him the sobriety test and arrested him for DWI.
