Robbery Suspects Done In By Smell Of Pizza

A sheriff’s deputy in Columbus, Indiana, discovered two men suspected of robbing a pizza delivery woman when he smelled pepperoni and sausage pizza in their home.

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy Jimmy Green was combing the area where the delivery woman was robbed for potential witnesses the night of October 29 when one man got Green’s suspicions up, according to Major Mark Gorbett.

“It just didn’t seem right to Jimmy, and he wanted to take it a step further and went to the witness’ residence. That’s when Jimmy smelled the aroma of pizza,” Gorbett said. “I’m sure our K-9 unit wouldn’t have hit on the pizza.”

Green saw a phone book in the home opened to the pizza listings. Officers also discovered the purloined pizzas and cash taken in the robbery and a knife believed to have been used by one of the suspects, Gorbett said.

Cops arrested to men in their early 20s at the home, two blocks from where the delivery woman was robbed. Deputies believe that the men called in the pizza order and gave a nonexistent address, then one of the men robbed her at knifepoint while the other served as a lookout.

Columbus, population 40,000, is 40 miles southeast of Indianapolis.

This Bill Isn’t Authentic

Police in Batesville, Arkansas, immediately knew that this Bill was phony.

A man has been arrested for attempting to use a $100 bill with no president’s picture and the name of former U.S. President Bill Clinton.

The unidentified man was arrested October 27 for attempting to use the bogus bill to pay for cigarettes at a gas station there.

“The bill was unmistakably fake due to the fact that the ink was running on the bill, the president’s face was missing and for the president’s name, it had the name Clinton on it,” said Deputy Nathan Stephens.

The sheriff’s office expects to file counterfeiting charges against the man, according to authorities.

“Of all the cases I’ve worked with phony money, this is the sorriest bill I’ve ever seen,” Lt. Brenda Bittle said.

Thief In Germany Leaves Police A Vital Tip-Off

A clumsy burglar in Germany left police an important clue at a break-in when he accidentally sliced off the end of a finger and left it there, according to police.

“We usually find fingerprints at the crime scene, but it’s not every day that thieves leave the original there too,” said a spokesman for police in the central town of Hildesheim.

Police did not waste any time matching the severed piece of finger with existing prints they had from a 15-year-old of Iraqi origin.

At first, the teen denied burglarizing an office to steal a computer but confessed when confronted with the digital evidence, which had been sliced off in a broken window.

“I don’t know if the fellow asked for it [the fingertip] back afterwards,” the police spokesman said.

A gang of robbers in Constanta, Romania, broke into a bank’s headquarters in a bold overnight raid — only to discover that the building was vacant.

The three criminals looked forward to hitting the jackpot with their raid on the Nova Bank in downtown Constanta.

But unbeknownst to them, the bank was moving to a new location and the building they thought was still the bank turned out to be empty.

According to police, the gang broke into the building, which had been closed for renovation work, by forcing the main doors.

A police spokesman said, “The robbers thought they would make the hit of their lives but instead broke into an empty building.

“They couldn’t find anything to steal, not even some heating pipes they tried to remove from the walls.”

Neighbors saw the robbers when they left the building empty-handed but police were unable to catch them.

Officers said they have taken evidence from the crime scene scene and had already sketched out a list of suspects.
