Police Find Alleged Home Burglar Asleep

A man suspected of burglarizing a home in Missoula, Montana, was busted after police there discovered him asleep in the basement. The man, identified as Iam D. Wright, was lying on the floor early April 26 next to a black bag filled with stuff that was taken from the homeowners, including stereo equipment, a backpack, and a wallet, according to police.

One of the residents had flagged down nearby officers after spotting a man in their basement.

Wright’s eyes were closed and he did not respond to police until they threatened him with a Taser.

Police say that he told them that he was drunk and had passed out after a party at the home, but the homeowners gave the lie to that, saying that they did not host a party.

Wright is charged with felony theft and burglary and, as of this writing, is being held on $2,500 bail.

Police found other items on Wright’s person that did not belong to the couple, and say that he may be responsible for a rash of other thefts and burglaries in the area.

Police Say Man Was Love-Struck Thief

Whenever 31-year-old Antonio Moreno wanted to see his girlfriend, police in Los Angeles, California, say that he’d jump in a car and drive right over.

That would have been fine, except for one thing. The 26 cars that Moreno jumped into all belonged to people besides him, according to authorities who arrested Moreno near his home in Inglewood, California, on April 25. They said that he was driving a 1987 Toyota Camry when they discovered him.

According to police, since January, Moreno had stolen Toyota Camrys and Nissan Sentras by using a simple device that starts Japanese cars of a certain age. Acting on a tip, members of a regional car-theft task force arrested him.

Some cars were stolen in Inglewood and abandoned as far away as Santa Barbara, California, police said, while others were taken from Santa Barbara.

He was “stealing vehicles as transportation to pursue their relationship,” according to a statement from Lieutenant Paul McCaffrey, a Santa Barbara Police Department spokesman.

He had neither a driver’s license nor a car of his very own, police said.

Moreno was jailed in Los Angeles on suspicion auto theft and was to be extradited to Santa Barbara to face charges, according to police.

His girlfriend, who was not arrested, told police, that she had been trying to dump him.

I think that that would serve him right.

Thief Betrays Himself To Get Free Beer

A cell phone thief in Neustrelitz, Germany, led the cops right to his door when they called the hot phone say that he won some free beer and he willingly gave his address.

“An officer called and said, ‘You’ve won a crate of beer’,” said a spokesman for police in this eastern town.

“Then he asked where he lived so he could drop the beer off, and the guy told him. I think the man was drunk.”

Woman IDs Suspect By Her Stolen Shirt

Ever heard the old song “Just One Look”? The one by Doris Troy? Well, just one look was all it took for 70-year-old Sandra Rowells of Greensboro, North Carolina, to recognize the man who broke into her home, offered her $500 to hide him and then attempted to run away wearing some of her clothes.

“Yeah, ’cause that’s my shirt he’s got on,” Rowells said she told police. “It made me mad because my daughter had just sent me that T-shirt from Florida.”

According to investigators there, the man, identified as 33-year-old Jahmell Kareem, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, crashed a car near Rowells’ home on April 24 after leading the cops along Interstate 85 that reached speeds of 130 miles per hour. Rowells said that she woke up from a nap when Kareem forced open her locked screen door.

“I’m like, you can have this house, buddy, I’m out of here,” said Rowells who fled to a neighbor’s house and called police.

Kareem was arrested exiting Rowells’ house. He faces several charges including felony hit and run, breaking and entering, and fleeing in a vehicle to elude arrest, said Highway Patrol Trooper A.R. Locklear.

Man Robbed Bank To Buy Fake Breasts

A man in Grinzens, Austria, has been imprisoned for robbing a bank. That in itself is not unusual. It was his reason for doing this. He claims that he needed the money to pay for a breast operation for his transvestite lover.

The man, identified as 29-year-old Robert Steinwert, an auto mechanic, was caught just hours after he handed over the £7,000 (US$13,940.87) that he had robbed from a bank there to a plastic surgeon.

The surgeon called the cops because he was suspicious that the mechanic wanted to pay him so much money in cash up front for the operation.

Steinwert has been sentenced to six years in prison.

Man Says Officers Chased Him Up Tree

I’m sure one man in St. Cloud, Minnesota, has made smarter phone calls. The man, identified as 39 year-old Jeremy Conrad Cornick, called the cops on April 24 to report that he had been chased up a tree by narcotics officers from a county in southern Minnesota. Meanwhile, police officers from the city in which this story takes place sure enough found Cornick, of Crystal, Minnesota, up a tree with his cell phone, but they concluded that he was hallucinating and under the influence of controlled substances.

As cops were trying to talk Cornick down from the tree, he lost his grip and fell. While he was unhurt, he was taken to St.Cloud Hospital for evaluation.

When his probation officer heard about what happened, he issued an arrest warrant, and Cornick was taken from the hospital to jail.

Suspect May Make Dumb Criminal File

Authorities in Orlando, Florida, have arrested a man whom they believe in responsible for at leasts three commercial robberies there. The latest happened on April 23 at the Hess Gas Station on South Orange Blossom Trail in Orange County.

The suspect, identified as Eric Cunningham, entered the Hess Gas Station wearing a mask and holding a rifle case. Once inside the store, Cunningham pulled out an AK-47 rifle and demanded money and cigarettes from the clerk. When the suspect fled the scene, he left behind the rifle case which contained a receipt for a firearm with (surprise!) the suspect’s name and address on the receipt.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office arrested Cunningham at his home, from whence the money, cigarettes, and rifle were recovered.
