Appleton Rifle club was formed in 1902 from members of the local volunteer regiments. The club has shot on the same site continuously up to the present time, making many improvements to the facilities over the years. The Club is an all outdoor .22 rimfire facility having ranges at 100yds, 50yds and 50mt with 54 firing points in all.

The objects of the club are to foster rifle shooting in the interests of National Defence, and in particular to organise the English team in any International match shot with the Target and Service Rifles or with rifles suitable for 300m shooting.
